No mola mola were caught, but plenty of other fish were caught in on a beautiful winter day fishing off the Gulf Coast of Florida.

We let a couple get away, but nearly caught our limit (5 a piece per day) of walleye in the Saginaw Bay. We used a very cool system, thanks to our guide Jerry, which included 6 poles (3 on each side) rigged with planer boards and hot ‘n tot lures. I really should have took a picture, but there is pretty much a description of the system here. Very cool and effective way to catch some nice walleyes (and a few catfish and a drum too). Jerry also showed us an interesting technique of “bleeding out” the fish by cutting their gills and hanging them from a stringer over the side of the boat. There was an extremely noticeable difference in the filets of the fish that were “bled out” and the few that we didn’t. It seemed like a great idea from keeping the “fishy taste” out of the filets. Big thanks to Jerry for his hospitality.

You can see the pictures of the walleyes that we caught in the Saginaw Bay here.
